    Speed limit recalibration

Calibration and speed flange on heavy goods vehicles - Why modify it?

Changes to the maximum speed a truck can reach vary from country to country. Africa Asia Middle East Australia ... Driving faster or slower within the legal speed limit varies. That's why we offer our [Non Homologated] calibration service for your fleet. Find out more below

    Increase or decrease maximum speed!

We offer the option of increasing or decreasing the truck's speed flange. In fact, even after running a stopwatch, trucks don't record their actual GPS speed. A truck set to 88 may simply correspond to a GPS 86, so the reality is not in line with what has been defined by the competent authorities.

Speed flange: Why and when to increase maximum speed?

WE REMIND YOU THAT YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE USE OF YOUR VEHICLE. WHEN WE INCREASE A SPEED LIMIT BY A FEW KM/H, YOU MUST USE IT ACCORDING TO THE LEGISLATION IN FORCE IN YOUR COUNTRY!!! WE ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO KNOW THE ROUTES TAKEN BY YOUR TRUCK, AND ONLY YOU CAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE!

Our company is not legally recognized to intervene, which is why we often limit our activity to exports. Why increase the maximum speed?

    • The vehicle may have been bought second-hand and set by its predecessor to a speed limit too low for your activity. Ex: dangerous products
    • The used vehicle may have been voluntarily restricted for economic reasons (fuel consumption).
    • The vehicle may be destined for export to a country where speed limits do not correspond to those registered in the current vehicle.
    • You have realized that the speed limit set by the stopwatch is not in line with reality (sometimes 1 or 2 km/h difference with the GPS speed).
    • You simply wish to change the speed limit for personal reasons and at your own risk.

Speed flange: Why and when to reduce maximum speed?

There are a number of reasons why you might want to reduce the value of a truck's speed flange.

    • Vehicles designed to transport hazardous materials and different regulations.
    • Reducing maximum speed for financial reasons: saving fuel on a fleet. Please note, however, that reducing a vehicle's maximum speed is not always beneficial, contrary to popular belief. Some vehicles don't find themselves in the right engine speed range when their speed is too low, so the gear engaged is not always the one that saves money. So, depending on the truck, gear ratios can be random to achieve savings. Under-revving in last gear. A vehicle that is too low in the revs when a hill is approaching and a gear change is required, whereas with momentum at a few rpm higher, the truck could have climbed a false flat without, for example, needing to downshift and therefore over-consuming.
    • Reduced speed to comply with legislation in certain countries.
    • Personal reasons.

On which vehicles should the maximum speed limit be changed?

We work on almost all European vehicles. DAF, MAN , SCANIA, MERCEDES, RENAULT, VOLVO, IVECO and many other makes. Gear flanges can also be fitted or modified on tractors and cars.

    Electronic tachograph or vehicle management?

    How do we proceed?

Please note that your vehicle's electronic tachograph is sealed, and it is not possible to influence its calibration. As a result, we have no influence on it. In other words, if you want to change your speed to a higher value than that set by the tachograph, you'll have to manage it yourself. For example, 95km/h instead of 90 will cause the stopwatch to beep for too long. Other totally illegal solutions exist for programming the vehicle's tachograph to match the speedometer.

We work on the electronic part of the vehicle, which is not dependent on the stopwatch. The stopwatch records various information (driving time, speed...) and enables calibration, as we saw above, which can be more or less precise, from a few tenths of an km/h to a few km/h, depending on the precision of the calibration bench, tire wear... The speed flange is then not totally correct. However, these few km/h that you lose can prove problematic over long hours of driving, especially when you don't have enough top speed to overtake another truck and are forced to stay behind, when you could be saving journey time.

Always bear in mind that only the stopwatch takes precedence over the speed record and that you alone are responsible for it. We will never change the maximum speed limit by more than 10km/h, and keep in mind that safety must come first! We are also aware that a few calibration errors multiply, and that a few km/h over a month can save you 1 or 2 laps with a customer. MAKE GOOD USE OF IT, AND STAY RESPONSIBLE!
