Clogged Fap on Fendt 718 Deutz and Adblue defects

FAP and AdBlue faulty

Clogged Fap problem on Fendt 718 Vario

The Fendt 718 Vario displays several errors indicating a clogged Fap problem. The NOx sensors before the SCR catalytic converter display error codes 134 and 141, indicating a data reception error with a timeout. This may indicate a communication failure or faulty sensors. The differential pressure sensor, with code 1703, shows a soot level in the particulate filter of 98%, well above the set limit. This soot overload leads to a reduction in engine power to Alert Level 1, as indicated by code 1891. In addition, the coolant level is too low, as indicated by code 101, which could cause the engine to overheat.

Prior to our intervention, the customer replaced the NOx sensors in an attempt to resolve these problems. However, this did not correct the faults, and the clogged Fap problem on the Fendt 718 persists. A forced regeneration of the particulate filter is necessary to reduce the soot load to 98%. It is also vital to check the differential pressure and temperature sensors to ensure they are working properly. The cooling system must be inspected and topped up to prevent overheating.

Details of error codes present

Fap clogged on Fendt 718

The Fendt 718 Vario uses a Bosch EDC 17 CV52 ECU. The emission standard associated with this vehicle is Final Tier 4 / Stage IV.

Recommendations

  1. NOx sensors (Codes 134 and 141) :
    • Check NOx sensor connections and wiring.
    • Replace NOx sensors if necessary.
    • Make sure the CAN system is working properly without interference.
  2. Differential pressure sensor (Code 1703) :
    • Check the condition of the particulate filter (DPF) and regenerate if necessary.
    • Inspect differential pressure sensor and replace if faulty.
  3. Power reduction (Code 1891) :
    • Diagnose and resolve other error codes to restore full motor power.
    • Perform a test run after repairs to check that power is restored.

FAP and Adblue troubleshooting on Fendt 718 Vario

On the Fendt 718 Vario, we found that the soot level in the FAP was too high, preventing automatic regeneration. After replacing the differential sensor, the problem persists, indicating a clogged Fap problem on the Fendt 718. As a last option, we completely deactivate the emission control system by reprogramming the ECU.

We start by connecting our specific diagnostic tools to the Bosch EDC 17 CV52 ECU via the OBD port. Next, we read the ECU's current data to identify all present and active faults, including codes 134 and 141 for NOx sensors, code 1703 for the differential pressure sensor, and code 1891 for power reduction.

Once the faults have been identified, we draw up a new operating program for the ECU, designed to suppress DPFS regeneration and deactivate the degraded mode. We also include the deactivation of AdBlue operation to avoid any future problems. This new program is then flashed into the ECU's memory using our specialized reprogramming tools.

Once reprogramming is complete, we check that the fault codes have been eliminated by re-examining the ECU data. All codes must be cleared or inactive. We then carry out a full vehicle test run with the customer to check that the overall system is operating correctly, and to ensure that the clogged Fap problem on the Fendt 718 is resolved.

The FAP must also be physically emptied to allow the gases to escape. Clogged cells prevent this from happening.

Following programming via our system, you can permanently disconnect the NOx sensors and adblue pump electrically. No faults will be present on the dashboard, and the vehicle will also be out of performance restriction for all exhaust and emission control.
