P207F9A Renault and Volvo Euro 6 defect - What is it?

What does fault code P207F9A mean?

Fault code P207F9A, often present in Renault or Volvo AdBlue systems, appears when insufficient AdBlue quality is detected by the ACM (exhaust gas aftertreatment control module).

    P207F9A has many causes

    • The main cause is insufficient AdBlue quality, but unfortunately this isn't always the case, and other factors can cause this P207F9A fault code.
    • AdBlue quality sensor fault
    • Exhaust leak
    • Too much sulfur in diesel fuel, sulfur poisoning
    • AdBlue injection fault (e.g. insufficient quantity, injector problem)
    • SCR catalytic converter failure (very costly, between €6,000 and €10,000)
    • Upstream or downstream NOx sensor fault

What are the consequences of code P207F9A?

Initially, when the AdBlue quality is incorrect, the vehicle issues an engine alert indicating a torque restriction in xxx hours. (usually 8h). If this time limit is exceeded, the truck will enter downgraded mode, limiting engine performance and preventing you from climbing hills. If you insist, the truck will then go into LIMP Mode (creep mode) and its speed will be limited to 20km/h.

    P207F9A fault

The consequences of this fault cause the vehicle to enter imminent creep mode.

How can I get rid of P207F9A?

Various options for switching off an adblue LED and exiting the degraded or creeping mode.

    • If you're lucky, the quality of AdBlue is really bad and adding better quality will solve your problem.
    • If one of the components needed to operate the aftertreatment system is faulty, then replace it. However, it is often the case that the problem returns quickly when another component fails.
    • We have a temporary solution if you're stuck in power reduction mode or at 20km/h, thanks to our emergency recovery boxes which you connect to the OBD socket and which will reset the hours counter before torque reduction. This doesn't solve the problem, but at least it lets you get home without calling a tow truck...
    • The ultimate solution is to completely program the AdBlue system (ACM+EMS), so that the fault can be permanently eradicated. This will inhibit P207F9A and all other faults relating to the FAP, AdBlue and EGR valve. If you wish, you can also disconnect all SCR-related peripherals.
