How to fit a Scania R650 free exhaust (videos at the bottom of the page)

Put your Scania R650/S650 on faultless free exhaust

Don't forget to consult our SCANIA Euro 4 5 6 special reprogramming database.

Like many of you, switching your Scania V8 to free exhaust: it's the ultimate! That great V8 sound with the valves open and singing, it's just bliss. Unfortunately, with current anti-pollution standards, this is not possible without electronic intervention in the engine program and vehicle configuration. We can do just that, and we'll tell you how.

Why faults happen if you don't deactivate adblue and DPFS

As we explained earlier, when you switch your Scania R650 to free exhaust without intervening electronically on the vehicle, the first thing you see on the dashboard is an exhaust warning light. orange with engine light . This indicates a problem with the vehicle's anti-pollution system. This light allows you to drive for a while without losing power. After a while, leaving the vehicle in free-exhaust mode will create problems with the particle filter's differential pressure sensors, and consequently with the adblue. The exhaust warning light will change color to red with a power restriction on the vehicle. Usually, stopping, closing the valves, switching off the engine and restarting is enough to clear them, but it can be a real hassle in the long run. Equipped with Scania diagnostic tools, here's an overview of the faults you usually encounter. To summarize, the image below shows exhaust pressure and temperature faults, the AdBlue System (SCR), incorrect DPF temperature and a difference in particulate filter pressure. All these faults cause warning lights to appear on the dashboard, as well as power restrictions over time.

Remove faults permanently to drive your Scania V8 with free exhaust at will

On this 2020 R650 equipped with the new EMD1 engine ECUs, we have to go through various stages in order to write a new engine program. Among other things, this new engine program enables the vehicle's AdBlue and FAP systems to be deactivated in the mapping (note that it is forbidden to drive without FAP and AdBlue in Europe), so this operation is specifically reserved for private use on closed roads or abroad in countries where the law permits. Engine mapping also contains all the vehicle's engine operating data, so we can play with all the parameters to get the most out of your V8, giving it more torque and power. The difference is clear on this vehicle, which goes from 650bhpto 720/730bhpand gains around 400Nm of torque: day and night (as an impression, it pulls better than an original 730).

Vehicle configuration and sensor deactivation to accept fault-free exhaust

Our Scania dealer and factory software enables us to access the vehicle's configuration data in research and development mode, just as the engineers do in Sweden. This is the last step before we can take to the road and test the free exhaust in Full Open mode for several hours. Since the fault generally occurs between 10 and 30 minutes, we test the vehicle after the system has been fully configured for a good hour to ensure that everything is operational. So you're ready for a Scania R650 free exhaust.
