My Scania Euro 6 V8 DPFS is clogging up and I have a warning light on the dashboard. Why?

It's not uncommon for key parts of the emission management system to fail on Scania Euro 6. This mainly concerns the particulate filter, which clogs up over time, especially if you're making journeys without too much weight. The fact of being at 25T means that the vehicle is forced to work harder, increasing engine torque demand and using more power, which in turn increases exhaust gas temperature, triggering more frequent DPF regeneration. Other reasons could be frequent short trips which, as we saw earlier, don't allow the exhaust gases to heat up sufficiently, and so clog up over time without self-cleaning.

What can be done about a recurring DPFS problem on a Scania Euro 6?

Does your DPFS warning light come on too often on the dashboard? It turns orange and then red, indicating that power will be restricted for a certain number of hours. You should know that this solution is not tolerated in European countries, even though it's invisible at the MOT. It is also compulsory for vehicles wishing to be converted to free exhaust. This involves electronically deactivating the exhaust system using our Scania factory tools. We own the software with which Scania Sweden works, develops and fine-tunes its trucks. We need to identify and collect the vehicle's engine management information. This is the information contained in the EMS S8 engine ECU on Scania Euro 6 trucks, and we have to interpret it.

Modification of FAP and SCR parameters on Scania R520 V8 Euro 6

In just a few steps, here's what we do to permanently remove AdBlue and DPFS from a Scania Euro 6.

    - Recover vehicle data (engine program version, engine type, etc.) ....
    - Modification of the data by deleting the FAP/SCR items of interest
    - Re-write data in your Scania Euro 6 EMS S8 engine management ECU

    - Deactivation of sensor operation using Scania Research & Development engineering software

No more engine light and no more AdBlue % (A switch-based AdBlue management solution is also available).

Switching to free exhaust on Scania Euro 6

To switch your Scania V8 to free exhaust, you need to remove the DPF cartridges. This operation is compulsory if the particulate filter has been deactivated in the engine program, otherwise the filter, if still present, will continue to clog up until it no longer allows exhaust gases to pass through, and you run the risk of overpressure in the filter, which can become dangerous. In fact, when the FAP is completely clogged, exhaust gases can no longer escape, which can damage the engine or at least its peripherals.
When the gases no longer leave the exhaust when the DPFS is clogged, the pressure is such that the truck may not start, or worse still, if you're driving and the phenomenon occurs, the gases will then rise in the intake and in particular in the turbo, also creating excess pressure, which very often causes turbo breakdowns and clogs the EGR valve and all the intake peripherals. What's more, if the turbo breaks, all its oil will go directly into the catalytic converter and the DPF, and you'll have to change the DPF and catalytic converter as well as the turbo, which costs around €15,000 or more.

We repeat! If you remove the DPFS electronically (which is mandatory) to switch to free exhaust, or if you simply want to avoid particulate filter problems, you must physically remove the cartridges! Please also note that we are not responsible if you use your vehicle in Europe with free exhaust. Our solution is reserved for trucks destined for export or for competition on the racetrack.
