Permanent Renault T480 NOx sensor fault
Let's take a quick look at the problem. A NOx sensor defect on a Renault T480. The customer took the truck to the dealer, who had already changed the sensors. Fault still present. Impossible to find the fault.
Fault codes detected, active.
We found 2 faults on the vehicle linked to a NOx problem. NOx means 'NOx Torque Control Reduction', i.e. the reduction of engine performance by limiting torque. What's more, if the problem isn't solved, the maximum speed will be reduced to 20km/h. Here are the NOx fault codes present on the vehicle:
P220013: NOx sensor - series 1 sensor 1: Open circuit means that the NOx sensor series 1 sensor 1 has an open circuit. The circuit sending information to the Engine Management System (EMS) is interrupted, preventing the EMS from receiving information from this sensor.
P220064: NOx sensor - series 1 sensor 1: Violation of signal reliability means that the NOx sensor series 1 sensor 1 has a violation of signal reliability. The sensor is not functioning correctly and is sending erroneous or unstable information to the EMS.
Negative impact of NOx sensor defects on a Renault T480 truck
The first negative impact is the inability to drive the vehicle. Lack of power and torque, and the risk of a 20km/h speed limit. The second impact is that the fault is difficult to pinpoint without changing a number of parts. The pump may be sending out the wrong signal, there may be a fault in the wiring harness, or the ACM (emission control unit) may be defective. Over €6,000 to change the whole thing.
Reprogram modules and clear NOx sensor faults
However, there is a solution that can counter these problems for good. We have specific tools which enable us to enter the memory of the ACM and EMS units. By reprogramming these 2 units, we can prevent these faults from being passed on to the vehicle's communication network (CANBUS).
By flashing the engine ECU and exhaust aftertreatment unit, the current problem can be solved once and for all. However, it should be noted that this is the driver's responsibility. Manipulation is undetectable, but prohibited.
Programming includes DPF, SCR and EGR suppression. All three are linked and mandatory.
