Daf Euro 6 - Faulty parts!
The latest-generation DAFs, and in particular the one in question in this article, meet the Euro 6 standard from 2014. They feature a particulate filter and an exhaust gas after-treatment system (adblue).
In many cases, we find a faulty adblue pump, injector, Nox sensor or gauge. These are often electrical faults, wiring harnesses or physically damaged components. We frequently see SCR catalytic converters completely crystallized, obstructing the passage of gases. Replacement of the part usually costs in excess of €6,000 plus VAT, while the particulate filter can also become clogged if the vehicle is not driven sufficiently or is idling on site (shredders, oil changers...).
What can we do to solve adblue problems on Daf CF 460?
Depending on the situation (if the vehicle is stopped dangerously), or if it is scheduled to be exported, for example, we can remove the adblue system, temporarily or permanently in force with the laws. The adblue management system can be controlled by the DAF engine management module, called the Delphi ETC3 ECU on CF models equipped with MX11 and MX13 engines from 2014 to 2017. By modifying the engine ECU's internal software, it is possible to bypass the vehicle's restricted operating modes, enabling it to be moved safely at speeds in excess of 20kmh. This means the truck is no longer restricted and can now cover any distance without speed constraints or power loss, particularly when it needs to be moved or driven with a loaded trailer.
How does the operation work?
The operation begins by examining the faults present on the dashboard. Let's take a look at our current case in this article, an adblue fault mainly linked to a faulty adblue gauge which, even when changed, still affects the vehicle's operation. Note the fault displayed on the dashboard below.
Generally speaking, an adblue problem on a Daf CF 460 (or other DAF/PACCAR MX11 & MX13 engine) will cause the engine to trip via the vehicle's CAN communication network. The engine ECU is thus in degraded mode, preventing the engine from delivering its full power, and in the worst case adding a maximum speed limit of 20 km/h.
Once the vehicle's faults have been identified on the dashboard (as well as using our diagnostic tools), we read the engine program using our specific tools (Genius, Kess...), then modify the engine program by deactivating all adblue-related error codes and turning off a whole series of configuration parameters. The program is then rewritten in the memory of the Delphi ETC3 ECU.
Checking FAP clogging and regeneration
During our service, we check the degree of clogging of the DPF, especially for vehicles running for several hours a day at a standstill. When a vehicle isn't being driven hard enough, and isn't reaching high enough exhaust temperatures, then it's clogging up, at least its particulate filter system and EGR valve. We also reset the parameters of the DPF as part of our service. This parameter can be checked directly on the vehicle's dashboard.

The final step is to check for faults and clear them with our diagnostic and programming tools, so that the check engine light goes out and the truck is still accepted at the MIN.
