    Reprogramming Scania 500S: DC13 165 engine: What's possible?

    Want to drive your reprogrammed Scania 500S with free exhaust and no light? orange with motor sight glass it's possible. The engine management program in the EMD1 ECU has been completely reworked. In fact, the DC13 165 block fitted to the 500S is completely taken from the 540S. The block itself is identical, as are the numerous peripherals around it, i.e. the volumetric ratio (compression ratio) is the same, injectors, turbos, fuel feed pump and even the gearbox have been deliberately used on the 500S and 540S - we're talking here about the DC13 165 and DC13 166 engines.

    Reprogramming options are therefore quite extensive, particularly when the use of the DPFS and SCR (Adblue) system is inhibited. Between the 500 and 540, only the clutch disc differs. The gearbox used on this model (after checking the data on the Scania servers) indicates that it's the GRSO905R, i.e. the one also used on the V8 520 and V8 580, so there's no need to worry about it. The final results are in the region of 590hp and 2900Nm.

    Deleting management of the DPFS regeneration program and AdBlue is also possible and even compulsory if you want to get close to 590hp. However, it is not legal if you drive at all times in Europe, but is authorized for use abroad (non-Euro countries).
