    Scania V8 S650: DC16118 engine and reprogramming

We worked on this Scania V8, S series equipped with the DC16 118 engine, i.e. a 2020 Euro 6 engine, fitted with a DPFS and adblue system as required by the Euro 6 standard, but without an EGR valve. The aim is to be able to use the valves without a fault on the dashboard, gain torque and power, and at the same time reduce fuel consumption somewhat.

    What is engine reprogramming?

Engine reprogramming, or chiptuning on Scania for example, is a technique used to improve an engine's performance by modifying the parameters of its electronic management system (EMS Sx/EMD1). Indeed, truck manufacturers often configure their EMS for standard performance, but in reality, each engine is unique and can be improved to enhance its performance.

Engine reprogramming allows you to optimize engine parameters by increasing power and torque, improving throttle response, reducing fuel consumption and modifying the torque curve for a better driving experience.

Reprogramming S650 Scania Euro 6 to 780hp Manual gearbox

We act on several parameters to optimize the performance of your S650.

    1. The amount of fuel injected: the amount of fuel injected into the cylinders can be increased to boost engine power.
    2. Boost pressure: boost pressure can be increased to boost both power and low-end torque.
    3. The quantity of air admitted: the quantity of air admitted to the cylinders can be increased by modifying the ECU settings to increase power.
    4. Engine speed limit: the engine speed limit can be increased to improve the available engine speed range.
    5. Throttle response: throttle response can be modified to improve engine responsiveness.
    6. Speed limit: the speed limit can be raised or lowered to increase the vehicle's maximum speed (available for some countries).

What can you get out of a Scania S650 after reprogramming?

On the S650 (DC16 118), all the more so with the mechanical gearbox, we obtain excellent results after rigorous and optimized engine management. The base power of 650hp is increased to 720hp in Stage 1, 750hp in Stage 2 and 780hp in Stage 2+ with the mechanical gearbox, which has no torque limiter like the Auto gearboxes. Torque, meanwhile, rises from 3300Nm to 3700Nm. All in all, the truck is much smoother to drive and performs well under stress.

Adblue, DPFS and NOx: We can remove

Calibration of the S650's emission management system to the EMD1 ECU means that, if the vehicle is not used in Europe, it can be suppressed or temporarily deactivated. If you want to open the valves to let the V8 roar on closed roads or at trade fairs or gatherings, then you won't have any dashboard faults or engine power restrictions. The advantage is that our solution can be activated on demand by fitting a switch (we'll explain how to do it). If you have exhaust flaps, you can leave the two FAP cartridges on the vehicle, but if you don't have flaps, you'll have to remove them, as the regenerations will no longer be active.

Please note: Reprogramming from Stage 1 to 720hp does not require you to remove the anti-pollution device on your S650, but for Stage 2 and 2+, this is compulsory (with or without a switch), the principle being that higher exhaust pressure causes the cartridges to obstruct gas evacuation.
