Reprogramming and Scania 590 V8 free exhaust now possible!

What's new on the new Scania V8 590?

For several months now, we've been working on software solutions to enable the new Scania R590 and 590S to be driven with free exhaust. The problem was such that Scania had implemented new engine management units, known as ECUs, and these were not 'cracked' in writing, particularly via the OBD diagnostic socket. Now it's done!

In fact, we already had a database of original Scania files for the new V8s, which enabled us to develop our solutions and simulate them in software. Scania's new EMS10/CEM1 ECU did not allow write access until a few days ago.

Engine reprogramming on a Scania 590S or R590 V8, what can be done?

First of all, Scania has followed the same logic as its 580 and 650 predecessors. The new 590 V8 block, also known as the DC16 121, has considerable reprogramming potential, and we'll tell you why.
First of all, the logic of the electronic flange between the 580 and 650 (NTG without EGR) has been retained. In other words, the engine blocks are identical, as are the surrounding peripherals. The same logic applies to the new-generation 590 V8 and 660 V8.
Let's put it simply: Scania develops 3 engines: the 530 V8, the 590 V8 and the 660 V8 (the 770 is different). The 530 has some features not shared by the 590 and 660, which are identical in every respect.

We have access to all Scania documentation and engine part numbers - pistons, camshafts, injectors, gearbox turbo and even all the parts making up these 2 trucks - and can tell you that they are indeed twins. The only thing that will restrict power is the EMS10 ECU software, i.e. the software version. Injection times, turbo pressure, injection pressure, throttle opening and torque limiters are simply reduced. We've listed the main parts and part numbers, so you can see for yourself that both engines are carbon copies.

How much power can we achieve on a Scania 590S V8 after reprogramming?

As detailed above, the 590 V8 DC16 121 is identical to the 660 V8 DC16 122. In other words, the final optimization is exactly the same as if you had a 660, and it's actually cheaper to buy a 590 than a 660 and reprogram it. Here's what we propose for the 590CV V8 version.

Original power: 590 HP and 3000 Nm
Stage 1 Soft - FAP and Adblue system functional : 630 HP and 3200 Nm

Stage 1 mode 660S - FAP and Adblue system functional: 660 HP and 3300 Nm
Stage 1 Plus - DPFS and Adblue OFF: 720 HP and 3550 Nm
Stage 2 - FAP system and Adblue OFF: 750 HP and 3700 Nm

As we said, the only difference between a 590 and a 660 is the software version of the engine ECU. In other words, we won't be pulling more than a stage 2 660, which will also regulate at 750 HP to remain reliable.

How to switch to Scania 590 free exhaust?

Switching to free exhaust on a 590 V8 is now possible. Since we have access to the vehicle's complete configuration, we can write our own data into the ECU and validate the now cracked safety key. We can also deactivate the particulate filter and AdBlue system on vehicles fitted with EMS10 control units. Deactivating error codes in the EMS means you can drive without any fault on the dashboard, as well as making the EEC3 box (gas post-processing management) totally disconnectable, i.e. with no error in the vehicle's CAN network, you won't have any warning lights and you'll be able to pass roadworthiness tests. You'll be able to install a free exhaust system on your Scania 590 and drive with the valves open for as long as you like, with no restrictions on engine power or torque.

Remove FAP cartridges to prevent premature clogging

To avoid premature clogging of the 2 particulate filters on your Scania V8, we recommend that you remove the 2 particulate filter cartridges, as regeneration will be deactivated to allow use of the valves on your 590S. The 2 cartridges exit from the front on the fender side (wheel arch).

    Speed sensor and control configuration.

On the new Scania models, as on the first-generation NTGs, the cruise control (max.) is configured via the Scania-mode control unit with specific authorizations (which we have, of course). The speed sensor is located in the gearbox and is managed by the TMS3 module on new Scania G25/G33 gearboxes, and TMS 2 on first-generation NTGs with GRS/O gearboxes. Changing the top speed on the cruise control has no effect on the tachograph. It's simply the maximum speed at which the truck can be driven with the accelerator pedal or cruise control. If, for example, you have a speed of 90km/h set on the chrono and we set you at 92km/h on the regulator, then after 1 minute your chrono will emit an alert. However, this remains an option that will enable you to overtake and turn around quickly, especially with a reprogrammed version of your 590 that will enable you to overtake almost any other truck.
