Engine optimization on Scania R580 V8

Scania R580 V8 and engine optimization

On Scania Streamline V8 580 engine optimization is possible. The truck is equipped with the DC16 102 block, i.e. the well-known V8 with variable-geometry turbo and EGR valve, plus its Adblue system.

    Operation sequence

Engine reprogramming for a Scania R580 V8 involves modifying the parameters of the engine management software (ECU EMS S8 - Electronic Control Unit) to improve performance, power and torque. Here's a general overview of the engine reprogramming process:

    1. Preliminary analysis: Before we start, we check the condition of the vehicle, including the presence of any defects.
    2. Reading original data: With a reprogramming device (sometimes called a "flash tool" or "programmer") connected to the vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic socket. This device will read current ECU data, including engine management maps and other parameters (fault codes to inhibit emission-related devices).
    3. Backing up original data: Before making any changes, it is essential to back up the ECU's original data. This will enable you to return to the factory configuration if necessary.
    4. Map modification: Using specialized reprogramming software, we adjust engine parameters to improve power, torque and performance. These adjustments can include modifying torque curves, rev limits, turbo pressure, fuel injection times, etc. Modifications must be adapted to the specific model and intended use of the vehicle.
    5. Writing the new data : Once the modifications have been made, we transfer the new mappings and modified parameters to the ECU using the reprogramming device.
    6. Road test and verification: After making the modifications, we test the vehicle to make sure everything is working properly. It is recommended to carry out a test drive under load, with a max. torque demand.

    What are the power gains on a DC16 102 Scania R580 V8?

On the R580 V8, engine torque and power increase from 2950Nm to 3300Nm (approx.). It is equipped with the GRSO905R gearbox, which can handle the torque without difficulty. For our DPF SCR and EGR Off solution, emission control components can be removed (including both DPF cartridges).

The truck's power output increases from 580hp to 640/650hp, making it more powerful at higher revs if required. What's more, the increase in torque means better acceleration at low revs, and therefore a fuel consumption saving of up to 3L/100km.

    Fap, egr and adblue?

The calibration of the emission management system helps to limit breakdowns related to exhaust gas aftertreatment. If tomorrow you have a problem with your NOx sensor, adblue pump or exhaust gas temperature sensor, we'll make them disappear without you having to replace any parts. Please note, however, that this is only possible if you drive outside Europe. If you wish to carry out the operation within Europe, this is your responsibility.
