    Scania 650 S power increase? Possible and effective

    Would you like to improve engine performance on your Scania 650 S Euro 6, reduce fuel consumption or fit a free exhaust? We have the solutions you need to make your project a reality.
    In today's example, we'll take the vehicle we worked on, a strikingly beautiful Scania 650 S from 2020. Our customer wanted to improve engine efficiency, i.e. boost low-end torque (with an increase of 300Nm on this model) and a corrected power output that enables us to reach 730hp, i.e. slightly higher performance than the S730, which develops 'only' 3500Nm as standard. The modification is possible on this model equipped with the DC16 118, a 16L V8 engine.

    Options available on Scania NTG Euro 6

    Several options are available to our customers on Scania's NTG Euro 6 models, including the 650 S we're talking about.
    The first option is to disable the SCR (Adblue) system, particularly when the vehicle is to be used in non-EURO countries. This operation can be performed directly in the EMD1 engine ECU. Mandatory when installing valves!
    The second option is to remove the particulate filter, especially if you want to install a valve exhaust system on your truck. The exhaust gases will be diverted, and the values for exhaust gas pressure or temperature will be incorrect, and thus interpreted as a fault in the engine management system.
    The third is the readjustment of the regulator, not on the tachometer but on the pedal, i.e. the tachometer will beep after exceeding the speed limit, but the speed will not be blocked. Ideal for overtaking without having to stay side by side for long minutes.
    Please note that not all of these options may be tolerated depending on the country or continent you're driving in, so it's up to you to make good use of them.
    As you can see from the photo below, there's no fault on the dashboard once all these parameters have been reconfigured.

    Power increase Scania NTG V8 S580 DC16 117 and S650 DC16 118

    At Scania, the DC16 117 on the 580 V8 and the DC16 118 are identical in every respect. Injectors, high-pressure pump, clutch disc and turbo are identical. So it's easy to upgrade a 580 to a 650, then optimize it to a 730hp version. Only the gearbox is somewhat different, and the 650 uses the 730's gearbox, the GRSO925R. Note that we've already seen 925R gearboxes fitted to 580s on cattle trucks, for example. You can give us your serial number so that we can see the exact configuration of your vehicle thanks to our connection to Scania data.
