Troubleshooting a Scania XT R520 V8 DPFS fault

How can I correct the defect caused by static truck operation?

Fouling of the DPF is one of the most common faults encountered on the Scania XT R520 V8. It occurs when the vehicle is used excessively statically, leading to a build-up of particles in the particulate filter. This can lead to a drop in engine performance and a reduction in the efficiency of the filtration system. Scania XT R520 DPF problems and faults can be solved in a number of ways.

    Alternative solutions to prevent clogging

There are several alternative solutions to avoid clogged DPFS on the Scania XT R520: Limit short journeys, after a long static cycle regenerate the DPFS by driving a longer distance at high engine speeds. Have the 2 DPF cartridges cleaned and reconditioned regularly by a professional such as www.renov-fap.fr

The defects encountered in our case

In our case, the particulate filter fault code is EMS 5805.
This means that the engine has regenerated the particulate filter too often over a given period. As explained above, this is due to the vehicle being used too statically. In fact, the vehicle has a crane which it uses for more than 3 hours a day, with the engine running in place. Exhaust gas temperatures are not high enough to validate the regeneration cycle conditions, or the cycle cannot be completed because it has been interrupted. So another regeneration is on hold, and so on...

The second fault is EMS 9263.
Error code EMS 9263 indicates that the differential pressure across the particulate filter is too high following manual regeneration. This can be caused by various factors, such as excessive particle build-up in the filter, an obstruction in the exhaust system or a fault in the particulate filter regeneration system.

What's more, we can see that the vehicle's mileage is only 100,000km, so it's unlikely that the filter is clogged due to excessive mileage.

The definitive solution to the FAP problem

The ultimate solution is to remove the vehicle's DPFS. This is not legal if you want to work in the Euro 6 zone. By flashing the data from the EMS engine ECU, you can solve the problem of the fault related to the DPFS. Fault escalation via the CAN network and the emission control module (EEC) is thus inhibited.
Adblue is also eliminated via this solution, enabling the vehicle to be sold or used abroad without any problems. The system is reversible, and can be mounted on a switch if you have a free exhaust system, for example. The DPF cartridges can remain installed, and you can enjoy the full sound of the V8.

    Speed sensor calibration

Calibration of the speed sensor allows you to obtain a few extra km/h or, on the contrary, to remove some, depending on your needs. We hope our article has helped you in your research.
