Problem Adblue on MAN D38 18.640 and creep mode

    Faults and warning messages

The D38 engines fitted to MAN euro 6 models (including 520hp, 580hp and 640hp) are equipped with an anti-pollution system comprising an EGR valve, a particulate filter and an SCR (Adblue) exhaust gas after-treatment system. When the SCR system malfunctions, whether due to a pump, injector, gauge or adblue quality problem, the system first goes into safety mode, with a loss of engine power, and then enters a higher level of severity, in creep mode: i.e. limited to 20km/h.

Fault codes present when an adblue problem occurs on MAN D38

In our case, we encountered the following adblue defects:

04535-01, 08131-02 and 08132-02. These faults correspond in particular to a malfunction in the Adblue system, due to poor adblue quality. It's very likely that the adblue quality sensor is faulty, or that the dosage is incorrect, and that the quantity of urea injected is insufficient, thus detecting a lower quality. It's therefore possible that you'll have to change either the NOx sensors, or the pump, or the gauge, or the injector... or... everything.

Adblue quality too low MAN TGX

The previous message is accompanied by a general engine control fault, as the vehicle's EDC17 ECU detects an anomaly in the post-processing system.

ECU reprogramming to suppress adblue on MAN 18.640 D38 engine

This operation will completely inhibit the gas aftertreatment and particulate filter (FAP). We connect directly to your MAN TGX's engine ECU to read and extract the vehicle's original program. Following this operation, we modify the mapping parameters to enable the vehicle to run without Adblue, FAP and EGR valve, permanently and without error.(Of course, even if this is undetectable, bear in mind that it's only allowed if you're not driving in Europe, or if you're exporting your vehicle).

The fault codes on the panel will have disappeared after our intervention, and you will no longer be restricted to creep mode at 20km/h. To eliminate an AdBlue problem on a MAN D38, we use the bench method, i.e. without opening the ECU, by connecting directly to its pins.

Following the elimination of the Adblue problem on Man D38

Reprogramming the motor control unit therefore allows :

    • Definitive elimination of emission-related faults here: 8131/8132/4535
    • No more LIMP mode (creeping at 20 km/h)
    • Power back online
    • Zero adblue consumption
    • No more particulate filter regeneration
    • EGR valve deactivated
    • Invisible at Mines
