New Scania 660S V8 and upgrade options

First of all, after many months of research, we were able to take action on the Scania EMS10 electronics fitted to the new Scania V8 530, 590, 660 and 770. In this article, we'll take a look at the various possible improvements for your Scania 660S V8. Now that it's possible to read and write data, we have full access to the heart of the engine control system. With our new programs developed especially for these new engine generations, we can help you switch to free exhaust on the Scania 660S V8,improve fuel consumption, increase enginepower and torque, and evenoptimize speed control. The engine on the 660S is therefore a development level 6, generation 3 engine. The block itself is called the DC16 122.

What are the advantages of reprogramming your Scania 660S?

Although we had already developed the programs for the 650 NTG, we had to completely rethink software development for the new generation of V8 trucks. The 660S V8 offers a significant optimization of engine performance, not only in terms of fuel consumption (for torque applications) but also in terms of driving comfort.

First of all, there are two important points to note. The first is that the 660S is simply a debrided version of the 590S, as can be seen below in our summary table of the main engine components. The 660hp DC16 122 block is therefore a carbon copy of the 590, simply debrided in software. (Think twice before buying a 660, as it's sometimes more economical to start with a 590 and reprogram it).

The advantage of reprogramming a 660 or even a 590 is that it's possible to optimize torque and engine power over a wider range, while complying with Euro 6 pollutant emissions, and thus reduce fuel consumption by one or two liters per hundred kilometers.

The 660's engine therefore develops 660hp and 3300Nm of torque, which already provides excellent performance. We offer a range of reprogramming options to improve torque and power, as well as low-speed acceleration, so that from 800rpm you can start to use the engine's torque by increasing turbo pressure by a few tenths of a bar.
What can you get out of a Scania 660S V8 after an engine overhaul?

Original power: 660 HP and 3300 Nm
Stage 1 Soft - FAP and Adblue system functional : 700 HP and 3450 Nm

Stage 1 Plus - FAP and Adblue OFF: 720 HP and 3550 Nm
Stage 2 - FAP system and Adblue OFF: 750 HP and 3700 Nm

Our engine reprogramming always combines reliability with performance. We comply with the manufacturer's standards and tolerances, so that the truck can be driven for a long time to come. (We always carry out a load test with our customers before reprogramming).

How to fit the free exhaust on Scania 660S?

It's now possible to fit a Scania 660S with a free exhaust system. To do this, you need to know two things if you don't want the truck to go into degraded mode after a few minutes of driving with the valves open: you need to deactivate the regenerations and information relating to the particulate filter, and you need to deactivate the SCR exhaust after-treatment system (Adblue).
This is due to the vehicle's EEC3 box. Many emissions data are transmitted to the EMS (engine management system) via the CAN network. This data comes from the EEC3 ECU, which controls pollutant emissions. When this unit is connected and configured on the vehicle's network so that torque reduction is effective in the event of a particulate filter or AdBlue problem, the truck will enter downgraded mode if the required values are no longer within the standards. This is what happens when you fit a free exhaust on a Scania, particularly a V8, and in our article for the 660S.

When you fit afree exhaust system to your 660S, you divert the exhaust gases directly, bypassing the vehicle's original system. It is therefore necessary to program your truck so that the FAP regenerations no longer take place, but also to remove the cartridges so that they don't become clogged. Below you'll find a diagram showing how to remove the two cartridges.

It is also necessary to deactivate any fault codes relating to the AdBlue SCR system on the vehicle. Legislation stipulates an effective reduction in torque if the AdBlue system malfunctions, particularly during NOx testing. Our solution therefore counteracts the problems you'll face if you fit the exhaust on the truck.

The new Scania trucks are equipped with the new-generation G33 gearboxes. These gearboxes include a speed sensor that allows the truck to be electronically limited, generally to 90km/h. In some cases, the vehicle may have left the factory with a lower configuration (88km/h), for example. The speed flange is therefore configured by acting in software on the data set by Scania Factory. The Factory mode of our configuration tool lets you interact with this value, so you can decrease or increase it as you wish, while remaining within the norms. It has no effect on the vehicle's tachograph, so if you exceed the legal speed set on the tachograph, the alarm will still be effective. That said, it's always handy to have a few km/h in reserve to finish off an overtake, especially when you've got the power to back it up.
