    Man Euro 6 regeneration problem: Unable to regenerate the DPFS

    MAN trucks, especially TGS trucks on short hauls (concrete, construction sites, etc.), sometimes have problems with their particulate filters. MAN trucks complying with the Euro 6 standard not only have a particulate filter, but also an Adblue SCR system and an EGR valve. These 3 elements are often prone to problems, putting the truck into what we call degraded mode.

    ACTIV code in EDC (engine control unit) 4549-01 corresponds to a regeneration fault: DPF service Particle filter required. If more than 2 regenerations are required per week, it is often necessary to change or recondition your DPF, or to remove it if the truck is travelling abroad (Africa, Middle East).

    The BOSCH EDC17CV42 engine management ECU in your MAN Euro 6 handles a great deal of information, not least that relating to engine operation, but also to the exhaust gas treatment system. In our case, when we launched the forced regeneration using the switch on the dashboard, it was carried out for 5 to 10 seconds and then requested again a few minutes or hours later. The truck went into degraded mode, and it was impossible to work properly.

    We intervened directly at the heart of the engine ECU and updated the memory to cancel the degraded mode corresponding to regeneration problems, as well as deleting adblue-related faults. This means the vehicle can be exported to countries where adblue is not present.

    Switch from ACTIV to PASSIV mode, then permanently clear the fault.

    The engine programming of the Bosch EDC17CV42 ECU will definitively erase any malfunction messages from the adblue Man system, thus enabling the messages to change status from AKTIV! to PASSIV! Regeneration will no longer be required, and the particulate filter can even be removed (if the truck is to be exported). Otherwise, it's up to you how you use it, but it's an effective solution that will prevent you from running out of FAP or Adblue.
